Visit historical places with my family

Last year my father had planned to visit historical places during summer vacation at my school. He planned to go to Agra. He had also some official work in Agra. After announcing summer vacation in school we all got ready to visit historical places.

Agra has been a great center for art and architecture since the Mughal period. Due to the limited time, my father had visited only two majestic places that were the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. My father chose the train for traveling because the journey by train is very beautiful, where one can see beautiful things outside through peeping windows.

I was very elated and was wondering how thrilling and exciting this experience would be. I had read about these places in only a book, but now my dream to see this place was to come true. The whole night I did not sleep and think how these places will be. The next morning my parents and I got ready and reached the railway.

After visiting and seeing all of these places I realized Indian culture and history. I found many remnants of our country’s Indian monuments. We felt wonderstruck by the majesty, beauty, and opulence of all those dome structures. I will try to express some words about our visit.

Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is one of the seven majestic wonders of the world. We all know lots of information about it. I often heard the praise of the Taj Mahal from my father. Taj is located on the bank of the Yamuna River in Agra. Agra is the beautiful city of Utter Pradesh that is famous for many other things.

We saw the view of the Taj Mahal from the train at a distance. It looked grand and impressive. We took rickshaws from the station and went to Taj. It was very high and beautiful. It is made of red stone. It is called Buland Darwaja.

We entered the Taj from the main gate. It was a white building made of white marble. We went by the path made of marble slabs. There we saw lawns and trees on both sides, with high walls and buildings at the end.a visit to a historical place essay

It is really a great work of art and India is proud of it. Every part of the building is very attractive on a moonlit night. I stood at the bank of the river Yamuna, the water of which was all silvery-white in the moonlight and it made the building look brighter than ever.

The Taj was reflected in the water of the river. It was a very beautiful scene. One who visits here, by the moonlit night can no longer doubt that the Taj Mahal is the most beautiful and splendid building on earth. It is indeed one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

History of the Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is the grand historical monument built by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz. As per the last wish of Mumtaz, Shahjahan built the Taj Mahal to signify their eternal love.

History of Agra Fort

It is widely considered one of the finest monuments from the Mughal era. This is a massive fort made by Akbar in 1573 AD. It took 8 years to be completed. After realizing the importance of its central situation, Akbar made it his capital and arrived in Agra in 1558.

The Mughal emperor Akbar’s view was to transform Agra into a great city of cultural and historical importance. Architecture laid the foundations and it was built with bricks in the inner core with sandstone on the external surface.a visit to a historical place essay

It is a fabulous design and incredible construction. History stands that the old brick fort of Sikandar Lodhi was dismantled by Akbar and a magnificent fortress of rust-colored red sandstone was rebuilt.

Shah Jahan however the grandson of Akbar who was very fond of white marble had reconstructed some of the buildings in the fort and replaced them with marble ones. He demolished many buildings inside the fort and rebuilt palaces and mosques using white marble.

The historical Agra fort is a feature of Mughal-style architecture. When viewed from above the fort is looked like the shape of a semicircle and is enclosed by double battlemented walls made of red sandstone. These walls are about 2 km in perimeter and 70 feet in height.

The fort is said to have 500 buildings in the style of Bengali and Gujarati architecture. That is what Akbar’s historian Abul Fazal had recorded.

The fort has four gates namely the Delhi Gate, Amar Singh Gate, Hathi Pol, and Ghazni Gate.

Presently, entry to the fort is allowed through the gate in the south of the fort called Amar Singh Rathore gate.

It was early known as Akbar Darwaja but was renamed by Shah Jahan as Amar Singh Gate. The brave person Amar Singh killed Salabat Khan in front of Shan Jahan and tried to jump with his horse. He failed to jump as the horse died while jumping and Amar Singh was put to death. Shan Jahan was admired for the bravery of Amar Singh and was renamed Amar Singh Darwaja.

Just outside the gate, there is a stone statue of a horse’s head built by Amar Singh Rathore of Jodhpur in remembrance of his faithful horse.

The gate on the west side of the fort is called Delhi Gate which is the largest and was used as Akbar’s formal gate. At whose entrance are the famous statues of Jamal and Patta who had laid down their lives fighting for Akbar. Visitors are given access to the fort only through the Amar Singh Gate.

There are splendid rooms, magnificent mosques, and beautiful halls inside the fort.

Hathi Pol is the inner gate having one stone elephant on each side for security.

The main structure and monuments at the fort include private halls called Diwan-I-Am and Diwan-I-Khas, the royal pavilions that house masjids, royal baths made using marble, a mirror palace, or Sheesh Mahal, and many others. It is believed that the fort had over 5000 structures and monuments inside it.

We fully enjoyed those beautiful places. The most amazing thing that attracts visitors is the white marble. It was an extremely mesmerizing trip. We enjoyed the charm throughout. There was a huge rush of visitors. I can never forget the memory of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

I am eagerly waiting for another chance to visit Agra and Delhi and for seeing the remaining beautiful historical places. It was thus an overall enriching and enlightening experience to visit these places.
